HOLISTIC COUNSELLING & PSYCHOTHERAPY with a Vedic difference.
Avril’s counselling approach is holistic, person centered, integrative & deeply spiritual.
Believing that not knowing who we are, what our real nature is, to be at the root cause of our problems, Avril integrates Vedic philosophy (Vedanta) to help her students and clients discover their true identity, purpose and meaning for life. She also works with Carl Roger’s, person centered theroy, Carl Jung’s psychoanalytic theroy and Viktor Frankl’s , healing through meaning.
Avril likes to begin with tryign to understand the symptoms, believing that the individual knows what is best for themselves and needs guidance and empowerment to heal themselves.
Her early educational background is in health science and clinical nutrtion and as a yoga & Vedic meditation teacher. Avril pursued her sturdies in counselling and psychotherapy to integrate Eastern philosophy with Western clinical scientific principles to enhance her therapeutic work and combines Vedic wisdom, yoga, pranayama (yogic breathwork) & meditation.
Avril’s definition of Holistic, means, taking a whole person, whole life view to include body-mind & soul, that is biological, psychogical, social, spiritual, cultural, enviromental and extends to all relationships between the individual and the cosmos.
And where Vedic, means, seeing each individual soul as an expression of that one, indivisiable, whole field of consciouness awareness. In the Vedic worldview, consciousness is all there is.
